Insulation Board
Warmfloor now distribute Aquamox Insulation Board
Additional Insulation for your underfloor heating system
Why should you choose to add Insulation Board?
- Improves floors heat up time
- Reduces running costs
New Zealand has a diverse climate where the core and ambient temperatures can vary greatly. These temperatures can significantly affect how long the floor takes to heat up to its operating temperature.
Concrete floors in the far North Island rarely get below 15°, however in the South Island and Central North Island the temperatures can be closer to 8°. It is in these colder climates that Warmfloor Insulation Board makes the most impact, however in the warmer climates savings are still achieved - see best practices and running costs.
As shown in the above diagram, by installing Insulation Board you are limiting the heat loss down into the concrete floor and directing the heat up into the tiles.
Wooden Floors
From the results of testing, it is shown there is only a small benefit when installing Insulation Board over a wooden floor - as opposed to a slate or tile product.

Additional information on how Insulation Board can help
When Insul-board is installed to your floor prior to laying the heating cable energy usage is greatly reduced whether you install tiles or laminate floor covering.
The board is 6mm thick and made of extruded polystyrene, reinforced, and covered on both sides with a fiberglass mesh embedded into a thin cement polymer mortar.
An individual board is 1200mm long X 600mm wide and is sold by Warmfloor stockists in packs of 10 sheets. It is installed using a flexible tile adhesive over a concrete floor or by using adhesive glue with screws and washers over a wooden floor. (see Insulation Board Installation Flyer) The screws and washers are also available for purchase from Warmfloor Heating stockists.
When the heating is activated the Insulation Board directs the heat upwards into the floors covering reducing heat loss going directly into the floors substrate resulting in faster heat up times which can be as much as 75 percent faster.
Once heated the insulation board also retains the heat longer reducing a second heat up time period. These savings are best illustrated by using our Warmfloor Cost Calculator.
This product is relatively inexpensive to install and would pay for itself over a short period of time. In the planning stages of a house build it is important to communicate this product is to be used to the relevant trades persons, this could include the builder , aluminium joiner , kitchen fabricator and carpet layers whom can provide wooden wedges at a doorways entrance as a common overall height once Insul-board, heating cable, self-levelling compound and tiles are laid may be around 23-25mm.
