Run Cost Calculator
A guide to the savings you can make by using a Warmfloor system
Our Cost Calculator Explained:
The calculator uses actual field results from three different climate regions in New Zealand to predict the cost of running your WarmFloor*. Running costs are based on a target temperature of 24 degrees Celsius and at a price of 25c per kW. Running your floor at a higher temperature will incur higher costs (and vice versa).
The calculator shows graphically the savings achieved by using Warmfloor insulation board to decrease heat-up times while retaining stored heat.
The TH05 thermostat achieves further savings by running a standard 100 W heated towel rail for 4 hours per day, as opposed to 24 hours per day. This often results in the bathroom floor being run with an overall cost benefit (depending on bathroom size).
The calculator allows for an appropriate heat-up time based on cable wattage sizes. These can be obtained from Warmfloor's sizing calculator, which assumes that specifications have been adhered to during installation. If specifications have not been adhered to, insufficient wattage will lead to longer heat-up times and higher costs. For wooden floors, the calculator assumes the floor has been insulated to the current ECCA standards.
Energy usage has been determined for mid-winter running costs. However, the Warmfloor TH05's adaptive heating function uses both floor and air temperatures to adjust the heat-up time, hence achieving further savings.
Multiple thermostats are the most economical option when running large floors. It is more cost effective to control each zone separately than to run all the areas off one thermostat (single zone). For example, it is likely the kitchen, dining, and bathrooms require heating at different time periods. By using multiple thermostats and zones, independent control can be achieved and energy savings made.
*This is a predicted and not an exact cost. There will be some discrepancy due to differences in each substrate, location, and orientation.
